Does a faulty Fuel sender always throw a code?
Title says it all. My fuel gauge is (very) intermittant. A couple times it stuck on "full" for a few days, then dropped to 1/2. Once it stuck on "E" then fixed itself. Most of the time it function OK The dealer will not replace the sending units (under warranty) unless there's a code stored (which there is not.)

Occasionally mine acts up also without sending any codes. Probably heard this before but add a bottle of Techron in the next tankfull. This time i added one the last two tankfulls. So far each time (4) in the last two years have cured the problem.
