The problem I experienced with my new Cartek clutch system over the weekend was caused by a broken adjusting rod on the modified master cylinder.
I had the car towed down to Tony's Corvette Shop in Gaithersburg and he spent two hours on the repair. I know that Dave at Cartek sent down a new adjustable master that Tony installed.
I have the car back now and it may be only my imagination but i think the clutch feels better now than ayt anytime since original install.
Tony s sending back the broken master to Cartek where Dave tells me it will be scrutinized for the flaw/defect that caused my problem. I will post what Dave tells me as it may be of interest to others with the Cartek setup.
All in all it was an easy although nerve wracking problem to get through. It ruined my entire weekend but all is wel at this point.
Re: Had my clutch problem resolved today (chucschramm)
What were the symptoms of this faulty adjustable master cylinder rod? How did the clutch behave?
I am experiencing issues with my Cartek clutch at the moment as well and am about to pull the car apart to get at the clutch. It would be excellent if it just turned out to be the master cylinder.
Any details you can provide would be apprectiated.
There really were no symptoms to look back upon as the problem just happend quite suddenly.
Up until this past Saturday the clutch worked fine although I had not really worked it hard at all as yet.
On Saturday morning the clutch pedal seemed noticably harder to depress. After taking note of this I began to hear a clanking noise each time I pressed the clutch pedal in. The noise seemed to come from inside the car at the time.
After maybe eight shifts the clutch pedal went to the floor and stayed there.
Maybe that I drove the car for about six weeks with the pedal adjusted too high is related to the problem I encountered, I am not sure but doubt it.
I can keep you posted on what I find out from Dave at Cartek.
Re: Had my clutch problem resolved today (chucschramm)
This is funny because the exact same thing happened to me...
One day the pedal starts to feel a little funny and before the afternoon was over, the rod coming out of the master cylinder was broke in half...
I was told it was/may have been adjusted to far out, but I don't see how that could be since that was the only position I could use that would allow me to get into all 6 gears and reverse.
Cartek sent me a new one which I installed and so far it works great. Also the new doesn't have as much adjustment as the old one which I supposed it that way so its not "adjusted" to far out.
Re: Had my clutch problem resolved today (chucschramm)
Chuck, I saw your car at Tony's. It's is even better in person!
Since clutches are a never ending problem on my car, too, I was talking to Tony about your car. Last weekend I had the pleasure of driving another Vette with a Cartek clutch. The whole car was very different than mine (had tons more power) but the clutch felt strange. It grabbed right at the top. If you pushed the clutch all the way to the floor, it felt pretty normal until the last inch or so when it felt mushy hard. Almost like I was pushing it beyond where it should stop. Just wondering if anyone else has felt this.
Re: Had my clutch problem resolved today (Steve Row)
Steve,
Thanks for the kind words. It seems that the adjustment on the Cartek Clutch is extremely important to get right. Too much one way or the other is a problem.
I will take special notice tomorrow to see if I can see what you are describing about the last inch or so on the way in.
I may take her to Cecil County this Saturday to get in a run or two in the morning. Seems like every time I wait for a Corvette event something happens to keep me away.
