Default How to? PS cooler

Any one have information on the installation of a power steering oil cooler? Mine overheats on the track and sprays oil all over the place.

Default PS Cooler

Steve,

The factory PS cooler's have the following part numbers:

26088760 (98-00)
26088744 (01-02)

I hope this helps.

After just doing the rack on a 98 The "cooler" isnt anything more than a long section of hardline that runs from the rack back to the resevoir(sp?).
An aftermarket cooler would be easy to add. Locate the 3/8 rubber line that ports into the P/S resevoir coming up from the hardline attached to the rack. That is the return line and its low pressure,so put the aftermarket cooler in that line

The Z51 and Z06 coolers are finned coolers not just a piece of pipe.

Default Here's a link to the pdf file

This link has diagrams and part numbers for PS cooler.

If you want picture, just ask. I can't post them, but I will mail them to you.

The car is getting an oil change this afternoon (I put my first 100 miles on the new 402) so I can get a good picture with it in the air.

Thanks for all the info. Its going into the dealer (under extended warrenty) to check it out for the second time. If I can manage it, I'll get the Z06 oil cooler line put in.

Ken Fichtner used to advertise the coolers several years ago. In 2000 I purchased one from him to install on my 97. It is a simple job and I was able to do it just using a jack and a couple of jackstands to get the front of the car high enough.
