I have a couple of questions regarding this installation. Does the bracket in the trunk that mounts the changer go under the carpet or on top of the carpeting? The harness from the radio to the changer- does it run along the console or alongside the door sill? When it gets into the trunk area does it run along the floor or up high over the wheelwell? The installation kit I purchased has no pics or instructions. Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer my questions. I couldn't find any info in my shop manuals.

You need the kit from GM to mount the changer It has a bracket that is glued and pop riveted to the body under the carpet. The studs go thru the carpet and the changer is mounted to the ears and then to the studs.
The kit also has the cable that goes to the changer from under the pass floor carpet and cover. In the lower right there are a plug and a receptacle that the changer harness goes in to. The cable then runs along the pass side of the car under the carpet and side trim to the rear of the middle compartment where the changer is mounted.
Then just plug and play. You should see a little CD logo in the radio display if all is well.
These directions are in the kit from GM that has the cable and the brackets also.
Ask any of the parts suppliers on this site and they will be able to get the kit.
Hope this helps

I was going to do the same thing to my car since mine came without a changer, but instead I just bought a 30gb Ipod that can hold thousands of songs. Now no more CD's flying around and cluttering up the car, not mention you can't change the discs while driving, something to think about.
I know this is an old post, but where did you get the "kit". Gene Culley has advised me he's not aware of a GM "kit" for CD changer installation.
Do you have a part number by any chance?

I found my receipt for the OEM mounting kit for the CD changer. I bought it from Mid-America. It was part #614-677. The price was $109.99, plus shipping. I didn't see it in their latest catalog, but I'd still try them. Eckler's also had it , but they were considerably more expensive. The kit included all brackets, hardware and the cable. No glue or instructions were included.

This is where I got my changer. While they have the whole package listed as one item, if you call the parts dept, they will probably be able to send you the mounting hardware.
Thanks! The "kit" might be discontinued if Gene Culley isn't aware of it. I'll try both suggested sources though.
I made the larger epoxied bracket yesterday out of steel, but having oem instructions, oem brackets and the oem harness would make this project much easier.
So far, neither MID AMERICA or ECKLER'S or Gene Culley has the kit any longer.
Tom of FICHTNER'S parts department (in MT) has come through...he found another dealership with the discontinued "kit" 12497876...
