I just bought a 2001 c5 six speed and it feels twice as strong from first til through thrid if the traction aint locked and if you can keep it straight, compared to when the traction control takes over. Is this normal, something wrong, or is it just me???
Something else that reduces power is the knock sensor. My knock sensor was set too sensitive and giving false knock readings. Consequently it was retarding my timing.
Thanks for the advice! Im glad I found this place because no one around where I live(including me) knows much about vettes. It does have original size tires. What (if any) is the best way to fix or make up the lost power???
I'm not sure if you have competitve mode that year or not. But if you hold the traction control button down for about 5-10 seconds it will go into competetive mode (this will show on your DIC). You will still have the power and maintain control. Maybe some one will chime in on this as I don't know as much as others on this. I have only had my 03 Z for a couple months.

You can "fix" the power loss by turning the traction control off. You can put it in competative driving mode like Marc c5 said so you still have active handling to help keep you in control. Also, since power is cut when the tires spin you can also just get better tires. You can run some kind of a drag radial. That should help put more power to the ground with traction control on.
This is normal. The way around it is to turn off traction control, or put the car into competition mode (turns off TC but leaves on the Active Handling). Hold your TC button for up to 10 seconds with the car stopped and you'll see it activate.
If you're like me, and you turn off your TC (or activate competition mode) each time you start the car, Laptrax sells a little gizmo that will do it for you automatically.
2001+ C5 have Version-2 of Active Handling. You can go to Competitive Driving mode while under way, no need to stop first.
While driving C5Zs at the drags or seeking max acceleration on the street, I went to Competitive Driving mode. Allows wheel spin but keeps AH available to keep you off the wall or guard rail, should the rear get loose.
Apparantly, the 98's don't have this feature?
I can't get mine in competitive mode without hammering the %@$# out of it!!
AH came in as a mid-year option for 1998s. If the car has the option, engaging Competitive Driving mode could only be done with the car stopped. That changed in 2001 when AH-2 became standard equipment.
I really appreciate all the help guys, Im sure i will need alot more in the future. If i put it in comp. mode- do I change it back the same way- buy holding the button for ten seconds??

Reverts to all-on with a single push of the console button, or the next cycling of the ignition.
