Default Transmission fluid overflowing

I was told that the manual transmission takes about 3.7 qts of tranny fluid. Once I got to about 3.5 the fluid started leaking out as I rushed to put the plug back in it. Does this mean that its plenty full? Im scared that I didnt get enough in it with some of it leaking out. A friend of mine told me that its better to be a little low in tranny fluid than to much? He also said that it wouldnt hurt the car if it was a few oz's low. I know I got over 3qts in it im just not exactly sure how much over 3qts. Any advice it greatly appreciated. Thank you.

as per my PM you are fine... You can't totally drain it in a few minutes because of oil clinging to parts.
If you had enough to overflow... you are full...

The placement of the fill plug was designed to prevent you from over-filling. When it starts coming out the fill plug - it's full.

A few ounces low or overfull isn't gonna make much difference.

That's under the assumption that your vette is *level* (or close) when you fill it up.

The rule of thumb (from the experience I have) - It's bad to overfull and it's bad to underfull.
