I had bought a 2001 Corvette Coupe a little while back and the previous owner told me it has a Superchip in it programmed to Stage 2. Anyone got any idea what this means?
Superchips makes hand held programmers. They prepare a performance tune primarily with more aggressive A/F and timing tables that you load into your cars ECU through the diagnostic port under the drivers side dash. They also provide tunes for modified cars but in order to make any changes you have to mail the programmer back to them, sort of a mail order tune.
SUPERCHIPS is not a "chip" per se, it's a DIY programmer. Usually, when someone says they were told they have a performance "chip" in their C5/Z06, some members get upset because they don't know about this product/name.
From past discussions, I've learned that most hand held DIY programmers are better suited for a/t cars than m/t cars. They have limited, but some useful functions like fan temperature control, a/t shift points and A/F changes.
I know this thread is a couple of months old, but I just have a question for the group.
I have a long-term goal of putting the Lingenfelter 430 package on my Vette (September or October '08) I return home from Iraq later this year. In the short term, just to get a little SOTP, I wanted to try the Superchips tuner along with a Z06 Air Box Lid on my 2004 coupe. Anybody have any thoughts to share. Any response will be appreciated.

Add a Halltech air bridge and a Blackwing air filter, a set of headers and a tune. You'll make your goal of SOTP feeling
Come home safe and thanks for serving..
