Hi Guys
My first time on CF.
Bought my '99 C5 a year ago (manual) it had 6700 kms. on it at that time and now it has 24,000 trouble free kms. till yesterday. This is my first Vette and I love it.
Now when I pull the key out the car thinks the key is still in the ignition (no auto unlock, the seat does not go back and the door chime comes on when the door is opened also the security in the instrument cluster flashes)
When I go to start it again the DIC reads Remove key wait 10sec.
I did, it didn't help and the steering lock doesn't engage.
I tried another key and cleaned them I even blew out the ignition.
I disconnected the battery for the night.
Cleaned all the ground points (they where not corroded).
Battery is fully charged.
Engine runs fine but the car only goes 2 ft. before it quits, but it will start again, It still beats the Fords but only for 2 ft.
Here are the codes that I can get
28 TGS C1255 H
A0 LDCM U1064 H, B2282 H, B2284 H.
A0 RDCM B2283 H, B2285 H.
B0 RFA U1016 H, U1096 H.
I have cleared all the codes and run the car and no other codes have come up but I can't drive it.
Do a keyword search on this forum for column lock problems. There is a sticky message at the top of the forum with a bazillion posts in it called column lock. This is a common issue and basically thee needs to hie theeself to a dealery to install the GM approved fix, which probably isn't going to work. Or, in several places a CLB device will be mentioned that costs about US$50 and can be installed by someone with modest mechanical skills can install it.
Unless and until one or the other of the fixes is carried out, you're not going to be able to drive your toy.
Thanks Charlie.
I have looked at those stickys about the column lock but mine seems different then those other ones as the lock does not engage at all and I can start the car and it will run fine but just not go very far before quiting also I do not get the service column warning.
Your car thinks the column is locked. therfore it cuts the fuel.... to prevent you from driving the car with a locked column and getting into an accident.
Steering column lock/ acceleraton failure over 2mph.

I have ben trough this and have spent countless hours trying to find a permanent fix. My suspicion is that a GM Dealler has performed the recall / fix the the steering column already. This is why your car is stuck in the security, theft conditiion mode. It thinks it is being stolen.
The dealers have installed a relay to bypass the column lock which also removes the steering wheel lock and this is almost guaranteed to fail. I know of no other fix than to remove their relay they installed and try that. I did this and it works most of the time now. Note how I said most of the time. Mine failed once again yesterday. If anyone has more info, please share it with us all. You either have this problem or you will in the future.
Thanks for the response guys
You were all on the money.
Tow to dealer $315.
Install new column lock relay $340
Works fine sofar. I,ll buy the CLB and stick it on the shelve for when it goes the next time and save some cash and do it myself.

You didn't pay the dealer to do this did you? If you did, go back and tell them you want your money back. Look at the column lock thread for the info on the recall. I will GUARANTEE you the dealer has turned this in on warranty and is collecting twice. If the dealer gives you any static at all, call GM customer service and file a complaint.

Yes, do exactly what Charlie said. I had a buddy of mine that had this happen to his 98. He "fixed" it by removing the "fix" that Chevrolet had put in there.
He still wanted it corrected and the dealer gave him a hard time even though his family has bought 6 Corvettes from this dealership. He called GM Corporate and that same dealership ended up sending a mechanic to his house and fix his car.
I have to agree--trying to figure this out is like looking for a needle in a haystack---Afer looking up all the codes--they seem all related to each other--the "C" & "U" codes are basically all from lack of communication or loss of power to each of there respective systems----
The "B" codes are where the loss of power came from--They designate that B2282 & B2283 are from Battery Circuit #1
and B2284 & B2285 are from battery circuit # 2
I guess figure out what the battery Circuits 1&2 are and if you can check or reapir all the wiring and connections on those it will most likely fix the other codes as well
PS--the "H" refers that it is a history code or an old code and the problem actually occurred somewhat earlier--
