Anyone with personal experience with either or both scanners please post their impressions of functionality of the products. And differences, if they are known.
The two products are completely different, autotap runs on a laptop while the scanmaster is a module with digital readout. You can record data and review later with autotap. The scanmaster as far as I know only shows real time data and only one or two values at a time. I used to used the o2 function of the scanmaster on one of my cars while running nitrous to make sure I wasn't going lean. The autotap program is better for doing anazlysis of data over time. While the scanmaster is better for monitoring a specific sensor in real time. Although this can be done now with autotap, its just harder to look at while your driving down the road.
The nice thing about Autotap is that you can pick from almost all the values that can be viewed and arrange them in any order and look at only the ones you care about. You can also record the info as you are driving and play it back later to view.
Another question; has anyone used the AutoTap to monitor long term fuel trim values on a corvette?
The manufacturer wouldn't say whether or not that particular function was supported; he said it works differently on different vehicle models......depends on what the vehicle was setup to report on.
The auto tap will monitor long term fuel trims. You will need to use the collected data to get an average of the fuel trims. This can be done with a spreadsheet program i.e. excel. There is a tremendous amount of info that can be monitored with the auto-tap. Much more than any of us will ever use. I believe that virtually every sensor can be monitored. I am not that proficient with it but it has been fun to work with and in particular reviewing the results from a drive that was captured on my laptop. It has helped me achieve better performance.
