Okay, I'm ticked off. Took my '00 Pewter Coupe in to Tom Benson Chevy for routine service (oil/tranny/differential) AND because the amber "service engine" light came on after a high-speed run down IH-10. The little engine diagram light is on solid - not blinking. According to the manual, this is an OBD-II related problem; shouldn't be a biggie, right? Well, Benson Chevy has had the car since Monday! They replaced a fuel pump under warranty, I picked up the car, but halfway home, the "check engine" light came on again. Now, the service rep is trying to tell me that the mechanic told him that it's an "air pump", and that he thinks he fixed it, but that they want the car overnight so it can "cool down completely". Air pump? C5's got air pumps? Cool down overnight? The freaking car has 11 CPU's fer God's sake! Shouldn't they be able to hook up the diagnostics and immediately know what the problem is? Help! I feel like I'm getting bent over! Worse, I'm afraid of the intelligence of the person monkeying around with my baby! :mad
Check the codes yourself. Hopefully they haven't cleared the old ones. You should get some because the check engine light came on. Anybody here on the forum can tell you exactly what is wrong if they have the code. http://www.corvetteforum.cc/techtips...D=26&TopicID=1
Here is the link to see how to check your own codes. Real easy. :yesnod:
Many thanks to Viprklr, downloaded the info, checked the codes. The code that showed up is 10-PCM PO410HC. I copied it down, then deleted it. Now, I know that deleting it does NOT solve the problem! I know that the code has to deal with the power train, but can anyone help me out with a more exact definition of what threw the code in the first place?
Also, after sitting in the garage all night, (the car, not me) when I drove it in this morning, it was fine. No "check engine" light, nothing. Additionally, does the fact that my OEM battery leaked a little, and was replaced at the same time all this other work took place, have any possible connection to this? They neutralized the spillage (I checked as best I could - looks like they got it all), and gave me a new battery. Could that fluctuation in power (amperage? watts? volts?) caused the cpu to hiccup? Can you tell that automechanics is not my strong suit? Again, if anyone can help me out with that code up there, I'd really appreciate it. If it's something I don't need to worry about, or something I can do myself, great. I just HATE the idea of these dealership guys poking around my car...it's kind of like seeing your sister go off on a date with a sleazy looking guy, you know? You just tend to imagine all sorts of horrible stuff. (Then again, I was a pretty sleazy looking guy when I was younger...but that's neither here nor there...   ) Any help would be appreciated!

Ah, yes...the ol' P0410! It's the AIR pump...probably a bad check valve. It's pretty common. I have the same thing on my Vette. It doesn't affect how the engine runs...it's just an emissions thing that only runs for the first two minutes after you start your car, anyway. I get the "check engine" light from time to time, but I just reset it. I'll get it fixed one day, before the warranty runs out. :) Don't sweat it.
