Are your front and rear wheels level or on an incline when this happens?

there is a lock solenoid at the shifter that may not be releasing.

If your saying that once you start the car, you push down on the button on the shifter and it will not move out of "park" then it almost has to be the solenoid.

Remove the center console and pull the shift boot up to expose the solenoid and make sure the elctrical connector is still attached if it is then r+r the solenoid.

Default park solenoid

I too got stuck in park multiple times. I spent about 2 hours getting to the soleniod which is located to the left side of the shifter after removing the console and the lower portion of the boot. Take your TIME and DON'T break the small plastic tabs holding the bottom frame on to the supporting structure. I looked at this one for a while and finally used a small screwdriver to disengage the PLASTIC locking tabs. When the solenoid is ENERGIZED it won't let you come out of park. The signal to deenergize the solenoid is SUPPOSED TO come when you apply the brakes after starting the car. The soleniod is SUPPOSED TO RELEASE but mine had other ideas.
SOLUTION:
REMOVE the 2 pin plug going to the soleniod. Don't have to remove the solenoid JUST THE PLUG. While you CAN get it out of park without hitting the brake it WON'T LOCK UP and leave you stranded in some parking lot miles from your house.

ANOTHER BRAINY IDEA FROM GM. BIGHANK

How is the best way to get to the solenoid?

The solenoid is right below the leather shift boot, like I said in my previous post you have to remove the center console and the shift boot to expose the solenoid, once you see where it's at then it's pretty self explanatory on how to remove it.

Default Park solenoid

If the solenoid is NOT STICKING MECHANICALLY why would you REMOVE IT? I thought about this too and without any voltage (plug pulled) it works JUST FINE. Didn't want to create future problems because the shift mechanism might be able to move and wear more or jam if the solenoid was removed. Just my 2 cents worth. BIGHANK

My solenoid had went completely bad. Like it was binding. It would not retract or whatever you call it in order to release the shifter. I had to remove the center console but one of the things you need to do to get the center console off is to shift to drive or at least out of park according to the GM manuals. I was able to lift the console enough and get a thin screwdriver to push the shaft on the solenoid and get it to release in order to remove the console and replace the solenoid.

My car was facing into the garage with NO way to get it out without dragging it. As a matter of fact the dealer was going to pour soapy water under the rear wheels to get it on the wrecker. Yeah right. After a couple of hours of work I was able to get the solenoid out and replaced myself. No problems now for over six months.
