I am trying to dress my wheels a little better and have purchased a set of chrome sensor nuts. If I simply remove the nut thats on the wheel and replace it with a chrome nut, will the tire deflate or is there an internal seal that I don't know about?
Yes, there is a rubber seal on the inside between the sensor and wheel. It will probably leak when you remove the retaining nut. If you do this be sure to hold the valve stem while removing the old and installing the new chrome nut since, without the nut, the sensor may fall off inside the tire.
That nut hold the sensor in position, you may get lucky and back the nut off and reinstall without the sensor moving but be gentle.
If the sensor moves then you'll just have to reinflate the tire just make sure that the sensor doesn't completely fall inside the wheel otherwise you'll have to have it dismounted to get the sensor back.
how long do the batteries in the sensors last??Can they be replaced??
Thanks
The batteries in the 1997-2000 sensors can be replaced. See the link below. They generally last from 8-10 years. All the ones in my 1999 are still good.
