First, let me say that I missed a lot of crap that went on today because my I was at the hospital all day as my second son was delivered. I would have liked to have responded to some of these issues myself earlier.
I see two main issues coming up.
First, the Hennessey threads that we locked. There have been claims made that we are limiting the discussion of this topic because Hennessey has asked to become a supporting tuner. All I have to say to those people that believe this is look around the C5 tech section a bit first. Do you see threads open on this subject where it is being discussed? I'll answer that for you, yes, you do. Discussion on the subject is welcome. We have not tried to stifle it in anyway.
What we did was stop the bandwagon effect where people with no first hand knowledge start filling the forum up with attacks on the vendor (it could be a member or a non-supporting member also, it doesn't matter). That doesn't add to the discussion nor does it add to the forum.
We also stopped the comments that were just plain vulgar and broke forum rules. There were a few cases of comments that were crude and over the line. They were deleted or edited and the authors were warned.
We simply cannot allow the forum to become one big bitch session. Let's discuss the issues, as we have done in this case, and not bring the whole place down.
Any of you that have been around a while know that we allow open discussion as long as it's not a vendetta.
The second issue that has come up is criticism of the forum management. The two are related as much, not all, of the recent criticism has come from people (a few of them hidden trolls) that don't like the way we handled the Hennessey situation. This is real simple. We have forum rules against criticising the management on the board. Take it to email.
Can you imagine what it would be like if we allowed open attacks on the moderators and administrators? Everyone that thought we ever slighted them by editing out a cuss word or deleting an over the line post would jump on a bangwagon under their name (or another) and attack us. It wouldn't make for a good place to hang out and discuss Corvettes. There would be way too much negativity. Besides that, we all work hard to keep this the best place by far on the internet to discuss Corvettes. It's a slap in our faces to have someone attack us in public. Think about that from our standpoint for a minute.
As far as that minority that thinks it's un-American for us to act this way, you really need to do a little thinking about this. Would it be un-American for you to throw your neighbor out of your living room if he came in and complained about the way you cut your grass? What if you asked him to leave three times and he still refused? Would you throw him out? What about his right to free speech? ;)
We even had one moron compare us to the Taliban because we exercised our property rights. We warned him to quit attacking the guys that keep this board running. He made two more attacks before we banned him. What would you have done in our situation? Would you have let him continue to come into your house and complain about you? Or would you have said three strikes and you're out?
Those that think they are in some way being noble by attacking management are wrong. You are simply violating some one else's property. That is un-American.
Simply put, this board is free for members. It's here for fun and knowledge. If you don't like it, go away. If you want to attack management repeatedly, we don't want you here. Go attack another board. That type of person will end up a problem on whatever board they frequent.
I'd rather have a few members that don't like it leave, and have a fun, high-quality membership left here. I'd rather have 100 good members than 25,000 bad ones. Luckily, I think it's more like 25,000 good ones here and only a handful that can't live by the house rules.
Now let's all get back to normal. I'm sure not going to sit around here and bitch all day. I have a new son to enjoy. I have a Corvette to drive as much as possible before the winter sets in for good.
Congratulations on the birth of your new son  There is nothing more important than that.
As for the rest, I certainly cannot fault you for limiting some of the discussions that have gone back and forth. Needless to say, some of these things are subject to interpretation. Just act in the most prudent manner and in accordance with the Forum's established rules and everything will be fine. :seeya
Troy, thank you for the response. It is alsways good to see someone defend themselves and what is theirs with asensible and responsible recap of factual information. I welcomed your actions. It probably should have come sooner, but that is just my opinion. Your wife did good. :)
Thank you for doing such a great job through the whole Hennessey ordeal. I think that the staff allowed the facts to be stated and at the same time kept the b.s. to a minimum. I agree, this site is what it is largely because of yalls consistent moderatiing approach.
Congratulations on the birth of your son!! Pass the funny hats :hat and cigars around!
The past few days I've learned and thought a lot about the forum, and the people and the Mods who make it up...and still feel very good to be a part of it
Well there goes your insurance rates! Congrates on the boy, and don't let the little things (or people) bother you. It did not even require a reply. Those of us who have been here a long time know that these people have come and gone and will continue to come and go. :bs
Congrats to yourself and your wife Troy!!! :blueangel: MattG and I should make the trip over to see your new bundle of joy sometime this winter!!!
