Can I put 245/45/17 tires on a 17 x 9 1/2 wheel?

tire rack recommends 7.5 to 9". Based on what I've seen guys do on this forum I guess you can get away with it. I wouldn't.

Check the manufacture for specific reccomendations. My Goodyear 245/40/18's are on 18x9-1/2" front wheels (max width per Goodyear). Likewise, my rear tires are 285/35/19's on 19x11" wheels.
