Repainting Quality
Does anyone know how the quality/application of paint that a Chevy GM Dealership Body Shop might use during a repair would compare with the factory paint job as far as impact resistance and durability?
I have had a couple panels repainted by the local Dealership and they seem to pick up rock chips much easier than the original factory coating. I am hesitating to have them repaint my front bumper now because I know it will look great when it first comes out, but not feeling very confident about longivity?
Can a local body shop apply paint that is as durable as the factory?

I paint on the side and only use Dupont, the GM dealerships around Memphis use paint from Sherwin Williams which IMO leaves alot to be desired. If you want your car painted right then stay as far away from a dealership as possible.
I would find the website to the company that converts the C5's to a retro 62 C2. I was on their web site a couple of months ago and they had a section that sold all of the used c5 body parts (including front bumpers) most in perfect shape with an assortment of colors (all original paint).
I did several searches for this link but could not find it. Maybe someone remembers what it was called.
The only thing I would be concerned with is fading - will this part be lighter or darker than the rest of your car. Perhaps they will give you time to compare colors and if it don’t match you pay to send it back to them. I think this would work great for the front or rear bumpers since they would hold up as well as your orginal paint did, easy bolt on, and if they were slightly off would not look as bad as a fender or door that was slightly off. The front bumper takes most of the hard hits from bugs and rocks - so I would consider replacing with a good used part if it was 99% flawless.
Its worth a try anyways.
Good luck.
