Ring replacement finished... What's the proper break in procedure???
On my way to pick up my 2001 coupe from the dealer after the ring replacement due to high oil consumption. Anyone know the proper break in procedure after this fix? :flag

Tomask.........I would drive it like it had 10,000 miles on it........
They should not have done anything except change 2 rings......and NO bore work.......so, the best way to insure fast, and good ring sealing is to NOT baby it........
Irf they replaced pistons, and honed the cylinders, then you get to do the 500 mile program again.

How long did it take? 4 days... the dealer has one vette specialist and he told me that he is the only one they will let go into an engine of a vette... was told he was extemely ****... washes the bolts before putting them back in... we'll see.[QUOTE]I would imagine it''s like starting all over. Mine is in now. How long did it take?

Hi Tom--
I have 2,600 miles on my 2001 Z06 since the dealer installed new rings & I'm only getting 1,000 miles per quart of oil. I hope your number's are better. Please let me know how much you average, after you build-up some miles.
Thanks,

I would appreciate anyone who has gone through getting new rings e-mailing me with your progress. I have a little over 2,000 miles since my dealer installed the new rings & I have used two quarts of oil so. GM doesn't want to do anything.
Thanks,

Bob, nuff's , nuff'........................call the BBB, and retain a lawyer, at this juncture, a NEW vehicle is in order.............DO not talk to the dealer at all......go straight for the jugular........
Have a lawyer draw up a letter of intent to bring suit, asking for damages, mental anguish, and lost monies.........
Warn, ( in a courteous manner), the ZONE rep...........only once, tell him what you are doing ( allow him ONE week to respond, for total replacement).......and then proceed.....ask for actual costs, and time, and court , lawyer remuneration.........this is TOTALLY unacceptable on a new 50K vehicle...........make GM pay............they deserve it............... :boxing

"mental anguish" I always thought that was :bs but when you go through having your car disassembled and laying it pieces around the dealer...it's not for the weak at heart.
And before the dealer gets started he tells you that you are paying for this if they don't find anything wrong. You just want to slap some sense into their heads. You are the one that's telling them what's wrong with the car and begging them to do the right thing.
It's not until you get your car back weeks later and get the keys until you know if they aren't trying to get into your wallet some way.
After 35 days of waiting I got mine back with a rebuilt engine and $5,000 bucks worth of warranty work...I guess those guy's weren't so bad after all, but it was stressful.
