Default Balljoints

I tried searching, I swear, but there aren't many threads on the subject.

I ripped the boot on the driver side rear lower balljoint last time I pulled the trans so I ordered a new Moog heavy duty one to replace it rather then just getting a new boot. I've never done one of these before but the entire rear is out of the car so its easy access. it looks pretty straight forward, I'm just going to press the old one out and press the new one in.

Has anyone done one before on a vette, and if so is there anything special to watch-out for?

I'm picking up the balljoint press from Advanced Auto tonight so any tips would be appreicated.

Leave the control arm attached, you'll need it to get leverage.

Just pick the right cup size and slide it over the bottom of the ball along with the flat plate. Pick a smaller diameter one for the end with the shaft and slide over it. Hook up the "C" clamp and press it out. It takes a lot of force, but then you'll here it pop.

To put the ball joint back in, just use a flat plat on the bottom and and a wider then the opening cup on the topwith a cover plate and press it back in.

The nice think about the Moog joints is that they spin around when you torque them down.

Great.

I think there is an allen key hole on the top of the bolt to stop it from spinning when tightening it down.

On the stock ones not on the Moogs. I have them on all four lower ball joints.

Oh well. I guess it doesn't matter anyway, because unless you have the axle out of the spindle you can't fit a tool in there...

This is true with the stock ball joints, but after that all you'll need to do is to remove cotter pin and use a wrench to remove.
