Basically, I am wondering if it is worth the extra cash for the added compression of the 5.3 heads and what differences I may see between these heads. They will go with my Torquer v2 cam(232/234, .595"/.598 112LSA
It's kind of tough to really compare the heads with so little data. Flow #'s at all RPM's for the LS1 heads are needed. Are the LS1 Heads milled? How does the exhaust flow on both heads? It would be nice to know approximate intake port volume as well. With the info provided the PRC's would be the better bet because they are a known quantity. More data could change things.

One thing to consider, is that adding compression will not only help your torque, it'll improve your fuel mileage. As long as you can get 92 or better OCT. , don't be afraid of bumping the CR to between 10.9-1, to 11.6-1. Makes throttle response crisper, too.

Am I right that larger runners will make power at higher RPMs? I am looking for moire low to mid range torque.
Generally, smaller ports will increase port velocity, thus low-end response. This underlines the need to match cam to heads, and your driving habits as well. I kind of splurged on heads, because the Trickflows looked like they have so much potential, but then I went with a smaller cam to maximize mid-range. I don't drag race, so I figured this is the area I'd get the most fun out of my combo. One of the best performing aftermarket designs has for a long time been AFRs, and their ports are only 205cc, versus 215 of the TF, and 220 of stock LS1 (I think).

Pay more attention to air quality. Example: The new L92 heads defy often repeated "truths" that small ports mean better low end response. The intake runner on these heads is 265-270cc and they make great low-end/mid-range numbers on 4 inch bores.
I made 450 w/ 5.3 heads and a 230-236 112 cam and all bolt ons and drove that motor in bumper to bumper traffic with no downside with a speed density tune.

Seems pretty similar to the set-up i am looking at, and the HP gains sound more than adequate for my needs.
