Default A6 tranny temperatures

I bought my first Corvette in February 2007. I researched the forum for about six months prior to buying. It's a 2007 LMB, 3LT, A6, with Nav and chrome rims. While on the road (public highway), the transmission temperature runs 180 degrees or lower. However, when in stop and go traffic, on a warm or hot day, temperatures have gone as high as 210-215 degrees. Temperatures will slowly go back down to normal when out of traffic. I know (old school) that auto trans temperatures over 180 degrees significantly shorten the life of the transmission (without a change of trans fluid). Should I be concerned? Or is Dexron VI made to handle the higher temperatures?

Those temps seem pretty normal from what I have been told by several trans shops. You have to start to worry when you go above 240, thats when cluthces and bands start to glaze, then they burn.

I can promise two things:
1. Those temperatures are normal.
2. You'll get more response in the C6 forum about C6's.

The stock trans cooler runs through the radiator at least on the C5, so your trans temps will be right around your coolant temps. Yes, higher temps shorten the life (I'm no expert so can't say how) but the high temp warning for the A4 on the C5 does not go off until a little above 250. The A6 may have the dexron VI in it and may actually have still higher temps.

Your profile doesn`t list what area you live in but if you live in a warm/moderate climate most of the C5 guys run a trans cooler (stand alone) most of us feel it`s cheap insurance and will extend the life of the trans.

If you do a search I`m sure you will find several threads mentioning the most common cooler set-ups!

Good luck!
