Default tires

I have an '00 coupe, and I'm going to need tires soon. I've never had anything but the stock GY runflats. Because of my driving habits/conditions, I'd like to stay with a runflat. I've been looking at the Kumho Ecsta MX XRP to save a little money. I've done a search, and read several posts, and some like them, and some don't. My question is: Has anyone had a flat on these tires, and were they repairable?

Thanks

I believe once the runflats have flat there need to be replaced. The way the tire is designed is so it doesnt flex as much so it will stil lbe able to be driven on without going "Flat".
I dont think a patch will hold up very well for that reason.

Default tires

I have Firestones on my car ...and they can be repaired no problem I speak from experience....I think they are a good compromise from the GY.....They are quiter and have a very good ride considering that they are Run Flats.....Good luck...

I was under the impression that this was done by increasing sidewall thickness/stiffness and the tread area was left primarily the same as any other tire.

Regardless, I have had Firestone and Michelin run flats patched before with no problems. I know Just Tires will patch goodyear emt's for some ridiculous amount of money. The two or three flats I've had Discount Tire has patched for free.

I'm in exactly the same position as you. I have a 2000 coupe with GY Run Flats, and need new rear tires for sure. I also have done lots of research and am still undecided on purchase. It's my understanding that the GY Run Flat is the only Run Flat on the market that can be driven 200 miles flat and still be repaired, with maximum of 2 repairs per tire recommended. I further understand that the Michilen Pilot A/S ZP run flat can be repaired if it is run flat no more than a maximum of 50 miles. Lastly, it is my understanding that ALL OTHER run flat tire manufacturers recommend replacement NOT repair, if their tire is run flat for any distance. I assume you can patch and re-use these 'run flats', as long as you don't actually run on them when they are indeed, flat.

Does that make sense?

I live about 20 miles from Goodyear Corporate and many people have misconceptions of what Goodyear has to say regarding repairs. The runflat can be repaired up to 2 times in a tire with the proper patch/plug combo done from the inside of the tire and retain all of its ratings. Being close, I've had these repaired numerous times at about $15 per procedure..........I think some of these dealers have no clue what they're talking about and may primarily be interested in selling people a new tire

These have been driven on Goodyears test track with zero air in them for extensive periods of time..........
