Why not drag radials????????????
I read so many post here about guys going to the track (more than once) and telling us how well they did but then they make excuses for there slow 60' times. I really don't see what the big deal is for someone to buy a extra set of wheels and a set of drag radials. I'm not saying race wheels but stock used wheels w/DR and swap them when you go to the track.
I find this interesing, I know it can't be money????
Let me know your reasons.
Re: Why not drag radials???????????? (mackeyred96)
My reason was is was so much fun smoking the crapola out of the factory tires. People couldn't belive I'd do this to my everyday tires. The second reason was to see how well I could do with the stock tires. 1.86 short time was pretty darned good I'd say :yesnod:
But now that I have Pilot Sports..........I decided to get a sperate set of rims and tires for the track :yesnod:
Re: Why not drag radials???????????? (mackeyred96)
Interesting question, John, and one I don't understand either. I have been encouraging a number of guys to get drag radials.
Here's proof that it works.
Last week we went to Cecil Co. for Vintage Thunder (All Corvettes). Dick Link who has a beautiful Fairway Green C5 asked if he could borrow my "baby" drag radials (245's on 8 1/2" wheels). His best time prior to this was on street tires (not EMT's) at Englishtown. It was 13.06 or .07.
He bolts on the drag radials and runs 12.51. That's over ONE HALF SECOND just from the tires.
You can talk Horsepower all day, but it's not much good if you can't hook up. This is absolutely the cheapest bang for the buck mod you can make.
Re: Why not drag radials???????????? (mackeyred96)
Power to the ground and money! The stock z-rated tires are hard and not made for drag racing, they won't stick. You can do long smokey burnouts but that won't win races. Stock run-craps;$300-$400 each, BFG's; $150 each. I found a set of chromed 17" front rims with BFG's already on them on the CF for sale forum for $250!!! The smaller rim on the rear gives me a better gear to launch with, and I get consistant 1:85 60' times. ;)
Re: Why not drag radials???????????? (mackeyred96)
I always run in exact same trim as I run the car on the street every day (same tire, same tire pressure, same weight)
I wanna know what it can do on the street every day. :reddevil

[QUOTE]Mackyred...need to know what setting you use on the Hal shocks for track?????
I use the softest setting for the track, and the hardest setting for the street. This has worked great for me
Mackey Red:
I just bough the Hal shocks to. Wheny you say the softest setting for the strip what exactly do you mean. Do you mean setting of 0 or 1(or the softest) on the front and the hardest setting in back. Please educate us who are just getting introduced the HAL adjustables.
Here is what I am planning to do as a starter for the Hal shocks and why. Goin to set 0 for the fronts....wanting the front to rise and transfer weight to the rear. Set a stiff setting rear, probably a 10, so the weight transfers down but not give as in a solid axle. At least try and see.
If you set the rear to sofest setting that will give a lot of play to the rear and lose of energy and weight transfer in my thinking

I've only got the HALS on the front. loosest setting on thae track and on the street the firnest setting.
I've still got my OEM 96,000 MILE Bilstine on the back and they work fine.
