At what level is everyone upgrading the fuel pump? I have a TSP built 402 going into my car and I'm wondering if I need to upgrade the fuel pump. I'll be running the injectors that come with the L76 intake assembly (39#?) and looking for somewhere around 500 rwhp.
I found out today that my '03 has the later version of the fuel pump mounting location.....which means that it is more difficult to replace (more labor $). Can anyone reassure me that I will be okay with my new stroker, with approximately 500 rwhp (maybe slightly less) and my stock fuel pump?
I think 500 RWHP is the deciding point to be safe. I think the wiring is all that needs to be changed to insure more voltage to the pump. I would check with Andy at A&A or Chris at ECS for the correct answer.
The stock pump will support more NA hp than forced induction due to the pressure increasing in the boost app. As fuel pressure rises the pumps flow drops off a lot.
I think you will be fine, but the wideband on the dyno should let you know if you can't keep up fuel wise.
Thanks guys. I will keep the stock pump for now. When I take the car to TSP to be dyno tuned, we can see if it is keeping up. If not, I will have them upgrade the pump.
I have a 2004 coupe with a 402 and an A4. I used the 30# SVO injectors I had on the prior 346. I also have the Racetronics harness installed and a KB 15 amp boost-a-pump. My best dyno numbers are 470 RWHP (locked converter) and my best quarter is 10.98
At WOT my injector duty cycle is 90% however my tuner says he encountered no difficulty controlling fuel flow even at this level. I am sure 42# units would have kept the duty cycle below 80% but what I have works so...
I recently added a wide band O2 sensor and a fuel pressure gauge. Normally I get 54lbs of fuel pressure but at WOT it drops to 52lbs. Perhaps all of that information gives you some idea of what to expect.
