i must be off, i actually understand the question(i think) i would first check to see that the bolts are tight to spec. if that doesn't do it you may have pinched the gasket or not gotten all of the old one off. (i assume you used a gasket). i would get with pep and have him correct the problem. the lose gas cap is just to relieve pressure to maybe minimize the leak but i doubt that it would help much.

well me and wrustywrench worked on the fuel pump bolts ...Whats going on is that the top bolt closet to the wheel is leaking gas ??? I dont know why it would because this is the 2nd gasket put on it . EPP did the first one when they did my LPE fuel pump and the did the 2nd one when i had diesel in my gas tank .. SO why now ??? wrusty put a rubber gasket over the bolt and some fitting tape and its holding for now Would/should i buy a new gasket and put it on ?? im puzzled about this ...jay

I'm having the same problem with my 98 as well. Where can you get just a gasket? How did you get it to stop leaking?
