Just purchased a cabon fiber air bridge with no sensor fitting from a forum member, my stock air bridge on a 1999 has a sensor glugged in to the left side, what its for I don't know, may be some one can help,do I need it? Thanks All
It's the Intake Air Temp sensor. And yes you do need it. The PCM uses this to adjust all sorts of parameters. You have 3 options here.
The first is to put a hole into this airbridge and install the sensor (making sure it's sealed). You'll also probably need to adapt the inlet to your smaller MAF sensor.
The second is to switch to an '01+ 85mm MAF sensor calibrated for your '99 and use a 3 to 5 wire MAF adapter harness. The '01+ MAF has the IAT integrated so a separate sensor is no longer needed (this is why your airbridge does not have the hole to begin with, it is designed for an 01+ car). You may or may not need to adapt the air cleaner to this depending on which one you have.
The third option is option #2, but with a non calibrated '01+ 85mm MAF. This requires having someone change the tables in the PCM. This is to me is the proper way to do it.
i went through a similar procedure with my 97. getting the sensor out without damaging it is a pain, but doable. If you have precision flathead screwdrivers and a sharp probe set, you can also re-use the rubber mount it comes with. I'd also reccomend siliconing the outside with black silicone just to make sure it's leak free.
