I am thinking about swapping to an LS6 intake and was wondering what it would take on on 99. I hear people talk about coolant pipes or something. Oh yea and if you have one let me know .
I'm installing one with a friend in the morning. SLP sells the ls6 intake with coolant lines - cheap. This one cost $ 445.00 2 moths ago brand new and comes with directions !! I dont understand people buying them for $ 400.00 used .
The coolant bypass is what you need or you can grind the ribs on the bottom of the ls6.
goodluck
you guys, looking on thunderracing.com and WestCoastCorvettes, it is advertised that the ZO6 intake can make up to 15 RWHP for C5s, but on ls1.com (vette specific) some guy's tryin to say he only got 4.7 horses out of his. Am I missing something here? LS1howto.com talks about a 24rwhp gain!! (? ) whats going on here?
So how long did it take? Mine is in the garage, but I need to find a couple of spare hours...
I installed an LS6 intake manifold and the coolant bypass pipe / plug kit a month ago. I took my time to clean everything well as I went, and I also cleaned the area around the knock sensors, and sealed them with RTV, as well as performing a coolant change. Total job took me 4 to 5 hours, and I'm an experienced mechanic, but an old one, that takes his time. Hardest part really was figuring out how to get some of the driver's side electrical and intake pipe connections apart. Do a search, there are good instructions on the entire process under lifter valley upgrade or something like that. PS......check your engine oil pressure sensor for leakage, while you have the intake off, and really clean well, with compressed air BEFORE you remove the intake, to get as much dirt/sand/crud out of there to minimize the amount that otherwise might go down into the heads when you remove the intake. I actually blew air down into each intake port before I installed the LS6 intake to eliminate any debris that might have fallen in there during the intake removal process. You will need a torque wrench in inch pounds to retorque the intake manifold bolts. I couldn't get the wrench on the back two bolts, so I had to use the SWAG method. Follow the prescribed sequence for torqueing the intake down.

On a bone stock car, I don't think you'll get much more than 5whp. But if you go with heads and a cam, the LS6 intake is probably worth around 20whp. The writeup on LS1howto.com was most likely a head/cam car. It was making 385whp and it jumped to 405 after the LS6 intake. My advice would be don't mess with the LS6 intake if you aren't planning on doing at least longtubes and probably a cam.
I am still doing the swap. A lot of cuts on my hands right now !!!
I messed up allready. After i removed the stock coolant lines, i temoved the small plates w/ gromets and destroyed the gromets. I thought that the new seals would be all needed. Well, i was wrong !!
So, i used gasket maker.
How come nobody says anything about the little plates ?
