Default Paint Care Advice

Well, I bought my dream Vette on Saturday..an 01' Millennium Yellow 6-speed Convertible. This is my third Vette, but my first C5. I would appreciate any hints or tips that you folks would throw my way. I plan to search the archives as well. Specifically, I am looking for paint care advice and any "gotcha's" that I should be aware of.

I am curious if I got a good deal. The car stickered for $53,500 and I got it for $46,800 before taxes. Thoughts?

Daaaaamn, 19 looks but no replys yet???? Welcome to the C5 world. My 01 was my first vette. Looks to me like you got one heck of a deal. Wish I had gotten that much off MSRP. Mine was 1500 off MSRP 14 months ago. Looks like now with the way things are going here in the U.S.A. that they are giving huge discounts.

I would have thought you would have gotten lots of comments on paint care. I wont go into what polish I use, but some things I learned here on the forum: Get a new inexpensive leaf blower to dry her off. I am really **** about wipeing dirt into my paint and causing micro scratches in clear coat. So I go and buy huge bags of terry cloths (about 30 to a bag) and only use each cloth once. No washing them and reusing on the paint. I will use them each once the next time I wash her to clean the wheels only, then gets trashed.

Might want to check out the forum that is specific on cleaning and polishing here on the forum. Jeff

Just keep in mind that 90% of a good looking finish/wax job is in the prep.
Meguires has an extensive line of cleaners polishes ect., and I have always found their quality to be top notch.
Also, check out http://www.thewaxtest.com/home.html it is interesting reading at the very least.

When it comes to finish advice on this Forum, you will see one word come up again and again: Zaino. I've been using Zaino products since I first bought my C5, and I'm convinced they are the best on the market in terms of shine and durability. You'll find lots of hints on the Zaino website and in the car care section.

Jbossert -

You got a great deal on your baby. Most discounts are in the $1500-2000 range.

As already stated....Zaino products give great results. The prep time and application require a methodical process, but is worth the time and effort. Also Zaino can be applied in most temperatures and in the sun or shade. Check out the Car Care section of the forum.

Check your build date. Make sure the solvents have had time to evaporate from the paint before waxing. At least 30 days.

Meguires has a good lineup with their 3 step Cleaner, Polish, and Wax, but from my experience Zaino Z5 used with the Cleaner is really nice. I was kind of hesitant because the zaino is kind of expensive, but it's well worth it. Especially if you have swirl marks to pull out. Just my experience. Good luck, and it sounds like you got a great deal.

Congratualtions,

You did really well on the discount! I got ~6K off a month ago on a simailar vehicle but I also bought it the last day of the quarter which always helps
In terms of pant care, there are two main contenders, the Zaino family or the Meguiars family. Either way, you can't go wrong. Enjoy your new ride.
