Default C5 question

was cleaning the vette today for a July 4th parade, It is a 2001 with an automatic transmission. Pulled it into garage. Later pulled it out to wipe down the zaino 5 I had put on earlier. When it was started to put it back in the garage the dash read "Service Column Lock" Looked in the owners manual and it said it only pertains to manual tranmissions.

Has anyone else with an auto. trans. of roughly the same year had this happen? What did you do?

You might want to check the column lock sticky thread.

They are not current with the GM recall on this. Read the sticky at the top of this section, order a CLB, install it, and be done with this problem, once and for all time.

Default Service Column Lock

I called the dealership on mine and they told me the recall had already been fixed on mine,(I bought my car used). The moral of this post is:
There is a chance the Column Lock will come back after the recall is fixed.

My solution: I ordered a Column Lock Bypass from ThunderRacing. Simple to install and you will never run into that problem again. I paid around 60 bucks shipped to my door. It comes with complete instructions on how to install it. The bypass is like the size of a square battery. Look into it and good luck

The general consensus is to not deal with the dealer, simply stated their so called fixes do NOT work. Order the CLB and be done with it.

I had the recall done at a local dealer 3 years ago when I bought my '99.
Not a problem with the service or the work!-

2001 and newer automatics did not come with a locking column, so I am not sure why you are getting the error message.
I assume your column did not lock before OR after this happened?
