Came out to the garage this morning to find a puddle of gas on the floor. Turns out the sending unit is leaking. The bolts were a little loose so i tightend them up hoping that would fix the problem but it didn't. Would i need to replace the whole sending unit or can i just buy a new gasket? It this difficult to fix?
If you're sure it's coming from around the sending unit, there's a 99% chance the only thing you will have to change is the gasket. The outer piece of the sending unit that presses the gasket against the tank is metal, and it's unlikely that it went bad or warped somehow.
I am not sure if the gasket is sold as an individual part or not. When I had a problem with the fuel pump on my 2002 GM truck, I could not buy the pump alone -- had to buy a whole new pump assembly, complete with bucket, sending unit, float, etc.
