Default Hot engine or normal

My newly purchased 2000 hard top runs at @ 225 degrees to 229 degrees in traffic before going back to 200 degrees. Normal driving temp range is about 180 to 200 when driving on highway. Is my engine getting too hot during during traffic or is that the norm?
PS I'm enjoying the heck out of the car. Thanks alot
Rich

Sounds normal. The fans come on with the A/C under about 30 MPH (but only in low speed, if I remember right). The temperature trigger is about 228F, at which point you should hear them come on. They're staged, and I think in the low 230s the second fan comes on to pull more air.

The t-stat is 195F, which doesn't fully open until about 200F. Normal running down the road, with air flow through the rad, should be in the 195-205 range. It was 105F here Wednesday, and I was running 201 to 207 down the road.

Where a tuner, either human or handheld, can help is in lowering the fan turn-on settings. My fans come on about 195F at this point, so I haven't seen over 210F this summer so far. Last year, driving in Los Angeles, it was possible to see the high 230s, and 235 was pretty normal. In one I-405 traffic jam, I think I recall about 240F. Lowering the temp at which the fans kick in helped a lot.

Short answer - sounds normal.

Sounds about right, 94* today and runnning down the highway with the air on the DIC was reading 192-195.

Since your newly purchased baby is a 2000, I am going to take for granted that your radiator has never been cleaned. Look up underneath and check out how dirty the radiator is. I have a 2002 and looked and was amazed at all the dirt and debrie. This is a thread that I found that helped me and I am sure it will help you. Try it.
