Default Horn - Alarm problem

My 2000 C5 has developed an annoying problem - the horn beeps randomly. 1 single beep like you get when locking it. It's been doing this for about a week now - no rhyme or reason to the beeping. It will beep several times in a 15 minute period, then nothing for several hours, then beep once.

I actually thought it was my C4 doing this and that I had a problem with its PKE. But, just figured out today it's my C5. I opened the door and the alarm went off even though I hadn't armed it. A short while later it beeped again and same thing - opened the door and the alarm went off.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you have the passive key fob, turn it off. Also, a battery on it's way out have been known to do weird things -

Take it to a shop that can put it on a computer. Sounds like it's throwing some kind of fault code. It beeping once is it arming itself. The alarm going off when you open the door is a tribute to that. The buttons on my key fob are real sensitive. I've set off the panic alarm with the key fob in my pocket just by doing things like climbing a ladder painting and by stooping down to pick up a dropped check at a reastaurant. Imagine how I felt walking out of the reastaurant wondering who set off their car alarm only to find out it was me! It could be any of these things or something totally diffrent. Good luck!

Your membrain in the airbag cover is probably going bad.

Try and find one from a blown airbag. The do not sell them seperately so you will end up buying a new airbag.

I had this happen the other day after I programed a new remote. I don think the switch was all the way to off on the Active/passive switch. Took the battery out, cleaned the switch a bit, reprogrammed an no more problem.
