The instructions usually tell you to install it right over the OE Pillar cover. The OE cover comes off pretty easily, just grab it and pull gently. It is only held in with clips and should be off in about 10 seconds. When I installed mine, I installed the Autometer pod without the OE a-pillar underneath. Gives you alot more room to run wires and such and does not require you to put any holes in the OE pillar. Downside, you need to drill holes in the A-pillar for christmas trees or screws. I used black interior screws, but alot of people use small black christmas trees.

so dont use the oe pillar and just install the autometer but buy screws from home depot and screw them into where the oe ones used to be? sorry thought this would be an easy mod.

I installed my dual pod over the stock pillar. Mine fit like a glove and looks like it came from the factory.

HINT: Take the plastic vent cover off the stock pillar and glue it to the outside of the gauge pod.

It is not a hard mod depending on which gauges you install. Obviously some are harder to install then others. The pic from WKMCD shows the christmas tree. It is the black button in the middle of the pic. You take the stock pillar off, hold the new one over it and drill a few holes. Push the christmas trees into the holes to hold on the new cover and push it all back into place. I just did not want to drill the holes in the OE A-Pillar so mine is just the plastic cover and is hollow inside.
