I want to install B&B bullet cat back exhaust myself. I think I saw a pic on this site of someone installing on ramps. They backed up onto the ramps and I could not see front of car. So the question is can I just backup onto ramps? Will the front bottom out? Will there be enough room to swing them downwards as they come off? Another question is what was the brand ramp people are buying that can also be used in the front (ramps).
You need to have the back of the car almost 3 feet in the air to remove the old exhaust. If you just want to cut the old exhaust off you can do it without having to go 3 feet up. I have jacked the car up before to do this removal. I have done it both with some blocks under the front of the car and without. the only thing you will normally bend is the plastic deflectors for air in the front of the car. With two 2x6s under the front wheels it will not bend as much. For the rear of the car I used some regular steel ramps you buy anywhere, but they are too steep for the front of the car.
I would suggest you jack the rear of the car up instead of backing it onto the ramps, many guys have had issues doing this.
My procedure is to drive the front wheels onto the ramps (2x4's on approach), then jack the back of the car up and secure with four jack stands under the body.
Harbor freight has two heavy duty jack stands for like 12-14 dollars and a good heavy duty jack for 40 dollars.
When I need to go higher then the jack stands will accomodate, I use four 12" x 12" (two per jack stand) large 1 inch thick concrete patio pavers to set the stands on under the car.
Plan it out and be safe. Spend 70 dollars to insure there are no mishaps and for safety. If you work on the car, you will definitely put these tools to use in the near future. A wise investment IMO.
