I have a 1997 cpe that I bought used. It was driving fine and then all of a sudden it started switching between metric and english. I can't even get into the diagnostic because it causes the rest of the gauges buttons to not work. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the button is not stuck in. I would suggest checking your ground connections. I had a problem with the DIC and it turned out to be a bad ground connection at the right side ground pack on the frame rail.

The reason I brought this thread up is that a couple of years ago I was having the same type issues that you are. The instrument panel would intermittantly go nuts, now at the same time that would happen the door locks or the windows may quit working. I took it in to the dealer (I know...) and after 3 days they ended up finding a connection in that door accordion thingy that ended up being the problem.Worth a look.
