Default Relationship between hazard switch and rear lights

Folks,is there a relationship between turn signals/hazard/ rear lights? On my 01, my turn signals work only when I miss with the hazard switch, and the rear lights quit working except when opening the car remotely!

Yes, the turn signal switch feeds into the hazard switch where the electronic flasher is located. The timer/ relay inside the hazard switch controls the flashing for both turn and hazard modes depending on if the hazard switch is pushed in or not as well as input from the brake pedal switch. The shop book has a diagram of this system.

Thanks for responding! I think maybe the instrument lights are somehow connected to that hazard switch/mode as well! I understand the part costs around $38 and its a 2-hr job!

Do you mean the brake lights don't come on? If so, check the brake pedal switch behind the pedal in the footwell. If that's damaged then the brakes won't cause the lights to come on, but they'll still work for turn/hazard flashing. It all goes through the hazard switch.

Rear lights connector is back on passenger side by the wheel well.

The main connector for rear lights is by the battery in the engine compartment.
