transmission temp readings erratic

Hi , C5 w/ automatic. Transmission temp readings jump from say 180 to 284 and back down again. Sensor problem ? Anyone else have this problem ?

that's what my engine oil temperature does, after I burned up the wiring to the sensor!! You circuit may be open.
