Default **need Help Burning Oil**

GUYS! I am burning oil sooo bad. I have a 04 z06 with a vortech supercharger kit and around 10k on the system, 50k total vehicle miles. Everytime I get on it it blows smoke soooo bad...def oil burning. I made a oil catch can out of pcv tubing and placed it in between the pcv outlet on the valve cover, and the intake. Still smokes, I am wondering if maybe that catch can isnt working right, but it still smokes pretty bad. There wasnt a pcv valve also, would that be a problem? All it has is a tube going from the valve cover nipple to the intake tube, before the supercharger. That one is on the pass. side, the nipple on the valve cover on the drivers side has a plug on it. Can I just vent the pcv to a filter and eliminate the flow into the intake??!! Any ideas would be great, I hate to think that my engine is blown this early in the game, or that the supercharger is blowing oil......

Thanks,

Dustin

I would buy a catch can from a reputable source instead of a homegrown version. You might want to get a PVC valve in place and one of those breathers for your oil fill slot.

If that doesn't improve things significantly, I would check plugs and do compression check to see if bad rings.

How much boost are you running ?

Yeah I am thinking about just buying one...I have found a few places that sell high quality catch cans. I believe the pulley system is only set at 6psi at 5750 rpms! I sure hope the rings arent toast at only 50k, would that be normal?

I would certainly install a PCV valve, but sounds more like an engine issue. Pull all the plugs and read them, see if any are worse than the others, that will give you a starting point.

Have a compression/leakdown test done and put new valve seals in to start. Do you notice any blow by or does the oil dip stick mysteriously "pop" out from the fully inserted position?

Without a PCV all the boost that enters your manifold is going into your crankcase! This is not a good thing... Go a step further than the stock PCV and get a McMaster carr part # 7775K52. In the meantime plug the nipple on the TB and put a breather on your oil filler.
