I'm racing for the 1st time this comming weekend (have A4) Basic Tips Please!!!!!!!
Hello everyone. I was going this SaturdayNov 3rd just to watch the Fastest Corvette In Texas Shooout, but a friend suggested I should race, and I decided to do it. What the heck, it sounds really fun.
I of course will just be messing around in a beginner class. I think they have a short class that tells you the basics. I am a little nervous cause I don't want to look like an idiot out there if I can help it. Plus my car isn't Really Modded Out to the extreeme like many are, so I might be pretty slow to the finish line. I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I have a few questions and please just add any basic tips you think would be helpful. Remember, I don't know much so don't be afraid to tell me the obvious if necasarry.
I have an A4 with mods below, I dynoed at 313.3 rwhp and 328.5 rwtq. I wonder what times I might expect?
How Do You Launch (exactly what do you do) and what rpm's?
What Tire Pressure?
3rd gear or drive?
Anything else?
Thanks for the help.

:mad I just typed about 6 paragraphs of instructions and hit post...but your subject line to too danmed long and I had to go back...when I did ..everything I typed was gone!!!!!!!!!! :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
Watch the tree and leave on the third yellow. I use drag radials around 18 psi. Just try to relax, the first run is the worst, the butterflies go away after that! 3rd gear and pedal to the metal!

Make sure you are in competitive mode. Assuming street tires, so go around the water box. Try to heat up the tires with a couple of burn outs, if run flats, they're not goin stick anyway you do it. I don't rev launch, too much spin. Personally, I have never driven in 3rd. Keep it between the stripes and do a rebel yell at launch, it scares the yankees to death and good for a .1
You'll get alot on this. Traction control off or competitive mode, third gear. I keep my coolant temp lit up on the marque. go around the water, do a burn out just enough to clean off your tires and get em warm. When you get close to the line tighten up by brake torqueing, the first yellow will light.Keep it tight(taught) through the second yellow and never let off the gas-the idea is to get all the slack out of your driveline from the engine to the rear wheels. It's what keeps you from twisting u-joints, and the secret to better 60' times.Windows up, turn off air and radio. Try not to pee in your pants...
 :seeya
The A4 launches best at 1100 rpm and leaving just when the 3rd bulb lights...not fully lit. Goal is to get as close to .500 without going red. Anything slower than mid .5's is a bad light. The rest of the info above is right on. Helmet, letting the driver in the lane on turn-off side off first, and make sure you don't stage to deep....just barely light that second (stage) bulb...gives you a little better 60'. Stage the same way each time!

I don't race, but I heard that you should bring a few hundred bucks (cash) to bribe a tow truck driver to take your car out to a public road in case you wreck. Then you can tell your insurance company that you lost it and hit a tree, guard rail, whatever.... Remember...most insurance companies don't cover "timed" events.

start in 3rd? no one here starts there A4 in first and slaps through ?You will hit the rev limiter everytime if you do that
What is wrong with hitting the rev limiter? wouldn't that give you the best shifts? Letting the A4 shift on its own seems to be geared more for smoothness than performance.

Ron I tend to disagree, the limiter is there so that you dont rev to high. Also isnt one of the main things a powerloader and hypertech does to increase performance in an automatic is to up the shift point and make them crisper? Maybe a mechanic could chime in here.

This is The Bandit...... I am surprised this post is still around, that's cool. Thanks again to all who commented. I have a Powerloader, and I can not hit the rev limiter ever, no matter what I do. It is raised to 6500 and my shift points to 6,200 upon WOT.
I ran a 12.74 on my 1st Run, so I was surprised/pleased with the results.
