I'm in the process of lowerign the car. I have done the back with replacement bolts and all is well. I'm trying to get the front bolts out to cut the bushings and am stuck on the first front (front left).
Ok so I jaked it up, took the wheel off, unhooked the sway bar, unbolted the shock, and I've taken the nut off the stabilizer. I cant get the darn stabilizer to drop though. I've been monkeying with it for hours. I've tried all the tricks I've read on the forum archive. I've jacked up the rotor and hammered on the bolt till I'm blue in the face. I'ts just not budging. I've sprayed the bolt with cleaner and lube too. I can't put an allen wrench in it and turn it either.
I'm about to give up, :cuss and just live with the 5/8" lowering I can get with turning the bolt. Then I'll have to raise back up the back to make it proportional. Anyone have any other ideas before I give up?
I ended up undoing the upper a-arm........You will see there are 4 bolts at the top of the inside of the fender well that you take out. Then you can drop down the whole suspension to get the the bushing bolt out...You can use the jack to put upward pressure on the spring to get the bolt out.......Good luck
Re: Lowering front but I'm stuck, Help (CMilVette)
That did the trick, and comparitively thats alot easier. I may add it to the tech tips. She's sweet N low now. I'll post pics.
Thanks CMilVette, you saved the day!
All this work...just for cosmetics? I think the C5 is low enough (especially when I still hear that bottom front air dam scrape in certain areas). Now, if lowering the car would add 10MPH to the top end or allow me to turn exceptionally faster...then I would do it...but I don't see any benefits to it. Messing with the ride height is certain to affect something else (i.e. alignment, etc.).
You know I realize this is kind of after the fact but I thought I'd relate my own lowering strategy. I pulled the car up on ramps, stuck a small jack under the lower A arm and jacked up only on the spring. As soon as the tension is taken off the spring you can turn it by hand. I'm not sure if you could get the bolt completely out, but for adjustment this makes it a piece of cake.
UDLOSE, I hear what you're saying...but I sure as heck will never imitate those "rice burners" out there with their "coffee can" exhausts, "neon lighting," bright-colored tires...no thanks!

Imitate "rice burners"?
I don't believe or think that for a second! :bs
