Default A4 Tranny vent hose position

I noticed a puddle the other night when I got back to the garage. I jacked the car up and the tranny fluid seems to be coming out the vent hose and running down the right side of the transmission...but only after its been run and its hot.
I just bought the car, I have a reciept from the previous owner that the fluids were all changed not too long ago.
Is this just a case of possible over servicing or do I need to reposition the check valve itself. I checked the service manual and it states to note the position of the valve prior to removal of the line.....but I dont know if its positioned right or not. Right now the check valve points back at me when I look up at it....is it supposed to be pointing away from me? Here is a link to a pic. Its the tan and black piece in the middle of the pic, should it be pointing up not down?

servicing the auto trans on the C5 can be tricky and is easy to overservice.

You can either watch this for a couple of weeks and see if it stops (what I would do) or you can raise the car so that its level and you can reach the plug on the left side of the trans pan, start the engine and let it run until the trans temp is between 85 and 125 degrees, then shift through each gear pausing for a couple of seconds in each detent, then once back in park with the engine still idling, crawl under the car and remove the plug in the left side of the trans pan, the fluid should be level with the bottom of the plug.

If you pull the plug and fluid comes out it was overserviced and once the fluid stops running out you can reinstall the plug, shut the car off and lower it. If you pull the plug and no fluid comes out, then pump a little into it until it starts to flow back out.

I agree with what runamuk said. Trans was probably over filled and now is venting the excess.

I agree also that it was probably overfilled. For a sanity check, you can see my check valve and overflow line in this recent pic of my tranny when it was out of the car.
