Default Need to replace my Z51 shocks

My 2000 with the Z51 option needs a new set of shocks. Should I go with the stock GM Z51s or something else ?

Thanks >>>> INTHERED

Hi
I have a set of 2002 ZO6 springs and shocks I can sell the shocks for $125. Plus shipping and the springs $300. plus ship.......Either or both would make a great up grade............Paul..........

And, if you want to go new, get either the '04 Z06 shocks or the Bilstein Sport shocks. I'd probably go with the Bilsteins, they have a better reputation for longevity.

Have a good one,
Mike

I put Bilstein sports on my Z51 Coupe. A very noticeable difference in ride and handling.

I've got 50k on mine and still going strong. Need to start saving for another set.

Just curious, how many miles do you have on the shocks? I also have a 2000 with Z51 (37k miles).

I have 60K my shocks aren't shot but I don't think that the car is handling quite as well as it used too.

BSS are what I have on my beast.

Either seems to be a good choice though. I have friends that have the 04-Z06ers and like 'em.

From what I have researched on the forum the C6 z06 shock would be slightly firmer that the c5 z06 shocks. Most members like the C6 z06 shock because of the price (almost $200 cheaper than C5 shocks). What I like about the Bilstein shocks is they are guaranteed for life which means they build them better than the factory shocks so they will last longer. Factory shocks are made by the lowest bidder so they are cheap..

50k miles is a lot on factory shocks. I know you will feel an improvement in ride with ANY new shock over the old.

I went with the Bilstein HD shocks on my 01 z51 with only 29K miles and I love the ride! They are slightly firmer than stock z51 shocks (which all looked fine when I took them out). But they absorb the rough roads much better and they handle the interstate over passes much more smoothly. With the old shocks - after I went over a bridge/overpass at high speeds the car would bounce twice and then settle down. Now with the new shocks it’s just one bounce then flat. It reduced the occasional wheel hop, is tighter in the corners, and quicker reactions to the road. IMO the HD is the best shock for someone who wants improved handling with out a harsh ride on the interstates (many complained in the past about the sports being too firm for their tastes).

If you don’t race and you like take long road trips with your significant other then IMO I would install the Bilsetin HD shocks. If you want a firmer ride and don’t care what your significant other thinks on long trips then the Sports or C6 Z06 shocks are the way to go IMO.
