Default Need Help! MAF Translator on '01...

I just bought the MAFT for my '01 coupe. I knew that the plug did not fit, and that the wires would need to be spliced in. However, the directions (IMO) are not very clear.

Can anyone explain in detail which wire goes to which wire? A picture would be great as well. BTW, there are 5 wires in the existing plug on the car, but there are only 3 wires in the MAFT plug.

Also, where should I mount it?

Thanks!

There are 5 wires on your MAF connector.

The first 3 wires are yellow, pink and black, these are for the MAF itself.
The remaining two dark wires at the other end are for the IAT.
do NOT touch those.

About 4 inches back, cut the 3 MAF wires.

The MAFT has two sets of wires, each having older 3 pin connectors.
Cut the connectors off
( making sure you keep the same 3 wires together as a group)

The wire set on MAFT that has the same 3 colors as the wires on the MAF connector, is spliced color for color to MAF and MAFT. I use the blue colored butt splices.

The 3 remaining wires from the other set of MAFT then splice to the wires you cut from the MAF connector.

The only difference in colors is MAFT uses a green instead of yellow so you know that is the wire set that goes to the 3 wire set coming from the PCM.

Get some velcro and mount MAFT on frame on left front corner so you can pop off MAFT to open cover to change switch positions.

Thanks! I knew one of you two would have my answer. I really appreciate your advice.

kewlbrez - I have checked out your mods section several times. Excellent information.

team-zr1 - I am just getting prepared for my tuning trials. I will be getting that Ease scanner in the next week or two and will talk to you then. Do recommend that I wait and run the ease tool before installing the MAFT?

Thanks again!

You can either install the MAFT now and leave both switches to zero which means its in the curcuit but not changing the MAF signal, so its like not having the MAFT in, or

If you think your running a bit lean, set the base switch to 5% rich ( leave WOT switch on MAFT at zero) that way by the time you use your Ease scanner the LTFT will have had a good chance to re-average the fuel trim and you'll know by your first PCM scan what fine tuning you need to do.

Being without the scanner your in the blind, if you set the MAFT, do not make another change right away, get at least 20 miles with that setting for PCM to re-cal before making another MAFT setting change otherwise you will be chasing your tail in a circle.

Welcome to the perfect tuners club and enjoy the new found performance

John

Thanks. I'll probably give it a try this weekend. Just to make sure,

The green wire from the MAFT is going into the MAF

or

going away from the MAF?

The 3 wire set on MAFT with green wire goes to the 3 wires of the cable coming from the PCM.

The set on MAFT with the yellow, pink, black you splice to the wire ends on the MAF connector.

So splice to MAF connector first, color to color,
leaving green wire set for the wires in black plastic shield.

Make sure you protect your splices so moisture does not get in.
If you know how to solder, best, but butt spices are OK if you crimp them correctly.
Keep the 4 on/off switches on MAFT to OFF,
Underside of top cover of MAFT tells you what each position of the two rotary switches are as to percent to lean or rich.

Hope that clears it up for you.
