Default 2.73 Rear with MN6

I know it sounds crazy but Is it possible ? Will the rearend match up ? Looking at making the change to run the Texas Mile in October... What top end in 5th can I expect ??? Will this work on a 600 + HP supercharged LS2 ????

Let the education / discussion begin !

Will the rearend match up
yes; just be sure to remove the seal plate first - from the 2.73 carrier - before bolting it on

You would probably be able to idle on the highway at 65 with that gear lol. After the race see if you can set some MPG records.

Default Who Knows

Good question I am making 600 + HP with a maggie on a 402 Stroker, I have already done 200 mph with my 3.90 gears which was at 5000 rpm in 6th gear on a straight flat road in New Mexico... Took it up to EXACTLY 200 mph on the heads up one time just to see if I could do it. The trick is trying to reach 200 mph in a mile which is the goal. Thinking is with the HP and redlining in each gear might make it ????? Hoping that this setup will get me there but will see how it does in October at the Texas Mile...

I think you'd be better off going to a G-Force 5th/6th set (.80/.70 ratio) to make 6th gear useable. The car will accelerate better, as it will have much more optimal drops between gears. With a 3.42, 6200 in 6th would be 201.

Are there any downsides to switching to a 2.73? Lets say a 400rwhp. How would it affect its performance? Ive been meaning to ask this for a while and finally have a chance to.

I don’t think it will raise your top end. Your car is drag limited (not enough HP). It will also slow your acceleration, so you may be slower in the mile.

exactly

The way the car is now (3.42) you can't redline in 6th. The air resistance becomes greater that the thrust available at the real wheels.

When looking at top end, too many people just accept the figures given on a slide-ruler. Then real life rears its ugly head and reminds us that mathematics -alone- doesn't mimmic the real world.

Mathematics completely mimics the real world, but that's only if every varible is calculated for.... , which it almost never is.

In the end, Mike and LV Vette are right, since drag and tire rolling resistance increases so fast at those speeds, they overcome the engines capabilities for power. You may gain a few mph if you had an unlimited track. But since your limited to the mile, I don't think you'd see much of a difference.
Adding more power, however.......

Let me add again that mathematics governs how everything on this planet works, until women are involved.

So you are saying the slower acceleration because of the 2.73 gears will actually slow my run during the mile even though I have 600 + HP ???????
