help, c5 exhaust broke
i have a 1997 c5 coupe, on the stock oem exhaust ,where the h pipe bolts to one of the tail pipes lets say(just before it goes up and over the rear end),on the left side , the weld around the pipe and flange broke off of the flange on the tail side(leaving me with a big exhaust leak).i removed it and the flange looks like it might be stainless(no rust on flange). does any one know what metals are used on this flange and exhaust pipe. want to know before i have my friend use his wire welder on it. any help would be helpfull.

had the same problem
Dealer told me would cost $1200 to fix. Car was under extended warranty. He welded it then said it was part of the Emission System Warranty which was good for 8 years. Result NO CHARGE. But that was sevveral years ago. Dealer didn't want to replace entire H pipe for free. Make sure BOTH SIDES are OK or you will be doing this again.

I just had this exact same thing happen to me tonight on my 99 FRC. The rear passenger side flange on the H-pipe broke off, leaving my exhaust dangling. I just installed an aftermarket exhaust last Saturday and figured I botched the install somehow... looks like I must've just overstressed an already weak part.
I'm not sure if it makes me feel better or worse that this is such a common problem.
