Default Loose Door?

It seem my drive side door is loose atthe latch. It has a little play in it when it is fully closed and does not line up with the rest of the car. The post on the car does not move and is not loose. Any Ideas to fix the latch with out the dealer.

Thanks,
David

Hi Bigwave,
Maybe a can help.

To describe your loose door is it:
1) When the door is shut, latched and locked, if one pushes against the door (on the inside from the drivers seat) movement is felt.
2) The movement appears to be from the latching of the sticker post to the door latch.

If so....

First, take a look at the door hinges. See if the bolts show any sign of movement or any trace that the bolts have been loosened by a wrench.

Second, open both doors and make sure the open the same amount.

Third, look for a crack in the fiberglass of the door where the hinges connect and where the latch connect. Also inspect the "A" piller where the hinges meet the body.

I am trying to walk you through a pre-exisiting damage or crack inspection or a loosening of the door hinges.

Typically, doors go out of alignment from the hinges. You can loosen the bolts on the hinges with a floor jack under the door to keep it steady and adjust the door to perfect alignment.

Now.....

If it is not the hinges, cracked door or A piller, lets move to the door latch.

First, make such it is screwed on tightly. Second look at the latches "teeth" wear it graps the stricker. Any excess wear evident?.

If excess wear present..replace the latch.

To adjust the sticker, importantly mark its original position and loosen the two torx and slide the stricker toward the center of the Vette to tighten the door.

In closing....without seeing how out of alignment the door is verbally describing how to adjust the door is theroy.

Lastly, there is suppose to be a one inch by .25 inch rubber block above the door latch about four inches on the door. Is it missing? Maybe that's all there is to the loose-ness.

Please let me know if we have sovled the loose-ness issue.

PS Please excuse the speeling errors.

Kenny

Dave

There are a lot of qualified dealers in So. Cali. and you have warrant, why not! Save the hassle and let them worry about it!

Thanks Kenny I'll check all that out hope its just the sticker. It sags at the latch not the hinges and is loose when you push from the outside door handle. I'll try moving the sticker in just a hair see what happens.

WallstAl, I do not have any faith in any of the local dealers. They fix one thing and brake two. Also they love to keep the car for several days and then not fix anything. I have had very poor service with chevy! So far I've been able to avoid the dealer with this car thanks to the great help on the forum.
