Hello,
I have a 2k1 Vert, I picked it up from Florida and on the way back noticed a very faint noise. It wasn't a steady noise, more of a pulse of noise... as I got back to Michigan it got much louder and more noticeable at lower speeds. It is kind of a groaning noise, and it goes away if I swerve to the right... this to me implies a rear wheel bearing but there is no play in the wheel with it jacked up. What do you guys think? Is there any easy way to pinpoint the bad part? Thanks.
I'm gonna watch this thread. I have this annoying groan on accel at exactly 750 rpm. No idea what this is. I know it's NOT the exhaust. Positive about that.
Mine doesn't seem to have any correlation with engine speed, actually I couldn't hear it for the first little bit over the singing exhaust. I had to pop the clutch just to hear it at first, now it is louder than the motor.
Very possible it could be a wheel bearing
I had a similar issue.I had no measurable play either, but it still made noise .It went away as I turned into it also, although mine was in the front.
If the car was somehow smacked in the rear wheel,it could cause this without any real outward signs of wear.Maybe look for curbrash on that corner or lip protector damage.
That may give you a clue, but it isn't the end all either
Check everything else first, because these darn bearings are not cheap and you want to be sure...

I always thought of the throw out bearing noise more as a rattle, I only hear it in first taking off at low rpms. It also rattles a little when shutting down.
If you hold your clutch pedal down when you shut the car off it wont rattle. I don't know whats going on with your car boost, you said the engine speed didn't have anything to do with the noise but I'm assuming the vehicle speed does. When was the last time you changed your tranny and diff fluid. Or it might possibly be the CV Joints as well those are all just wild guesses though.
I'm pretty sure my right rear wheel bearing is gone. I'll probably start taking it apart, some have said you can feel it once you have the brakes off but I don't know....
It's the wheel bearing going... mine is doing it too. I track my car and replace them ever few years.
If the noise goes away when you slalom the car to one side that pretty much confirms it.
FYI the oem supplier is Timken, you can buy them from Autozone for a bunch less that the dealer. I just bought a set of new rears to install and they were $133 each.
