Re: AutoTap vs. Ease PC scanning software? (chuckster)
Windows version Blows!!!
Never got it to work
I just have my laptop boot from a dos floppy and automatically run Autotap.
When I shut it down it automatically copys the new log file to the floppy.
That's my point, if you buy a product that markets as a windows program and here it is the 21st century and you have to jumo back and forth out of true DOS and windows just to use the tool.
Also since autotap when not connected to the car is useless esp the DOS version other then playback when Ease in windows is smart enough since it finds it cannot link to PCM, goes into browse mode and you can do anything but record of course, as if it was connected.
I analyze maybe 5 to 10 traces a day of fellow Corvette owners who e-mail me traces and it really sucks having to use DOS at all so I just had to eat what i paid for autotap and damn glad I found the Ease scanner.

Go to http://www.obd-2.com and check out this product. If you own a number of cars, then this product is for you. There are three different interfaces you need for all makes of cars. You can send emails directly to the software writer.

I did visit that website, downloaded the software, ran it and it seems to be home grown, max year of LS1 is '98 for F-body, not C5.
Maybe the version you buy supports C5s but the working version you download did not.
Would be a low end, less features, not enhanced DTC low cost scanner.

Fantastic responses guys, thanks a bunch! I was previously thinking AutoTap, but now there's no way. I did do some forum searches before starting this thread, but didn't find much. Hopefully this will steer folks in the right direction.
Being test is my profession I found this product buggy as heck, lack of vendor concern to fixing the bugs, not responding to questions on their forum
Funny you should mention the lack of response on their forum. I was scanning it about 8 weeks ago and noticed the very same thing. It *REALLY* turned me off to see people asking serious questions and being completely ignored. In my experience, that is a HUGE signal. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten that so I'm glad you mentioned it.

Sorry for the Delay, I just woke up :D
Yes you need to mount it in the engine compartment. Here is my suggestion.
I mounted mine on top of the MAF Wiring harness. I just put a little zip tie through the mounting holes on each side of the MAFT and around the harness. It's very light and has not caused any issues. Also, it's easy to access there as I am always trying new settings...
YOu might want to put a small bead of silicone around the edges of the lid to keep moisture out.

What I do is next to the shroud on the left side corner is chassie frame.
Clean it off then use some sticky sided velcro.
This way MAFT is easy to pop on/off to take cover off for adjusting. Sticky stuff does not stay on shroud so frame works fine. Mine has been there for 6 months and many times MAFT removed/replaced and the velcro still holding well.

Wow, I guess I've just been lucky. I've been running an AutoTap Pro (model AT123) and used it successfully on both GM and Ford vehicles (haven't had a chance to try a Mopar yet). I haven't had any problems running Windows on an old 66 Mhz Pentium and Win 95.
I didn't have a chance to check out Ease, as there's no one around that owns it.
