Default Headlights dim when brakelights on

I noticed the other night when I touch the brakes my headlights dim just a little bit. Any thoughts? I usually dont drive it much at night so I may have had this problem for a while.

Possibly have your alternator tested to see if you have low voltage. I would start there.

Clean your ground points. Do a search on here for where they are at.

Don't worry, it happens on every car I have ever owned - including my Z06 and when I had my F-body. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about...

ok well my car does this and i think it is unacceptable. wheni hit the brakes the lights dim volts go from 13.8-12.6 then even worse when the compressor kicks on and off at idle. any further ideas.

i would check the battery first. if the alternator is loaded with th battery there could be a dip in voltage as accessories are added. mine usually has 14.3 with engine on. possibly check across the poles on the battery and you should see more than 12 v. with engine off. weak ground or corrosion on brake light sockets could cause system to draw more than usual. maybe all you need will be a good inspection and cleaning of bat. terminals and brake sockets and grounds.

Not to be a d!ck, but this is really common especially for GM vehicles - you may be chasing a ghost trying to keep them from dimming. Maybe HID is the answer?

It is common to all vehicles. On the Vette it may be worse than some other cars due to having 4 stoplight bulbs Vs 2. With the 4 bulbs in the back sucking additional current when you hit the brake pedal the voltage regulator takes a few 100 milliseconds to respond to the additional current draw and you see the lights blink.

cleaned my throttle body. since the car is a drive by wire. it has to open more than it should to get the idle to raise when the compressor kicks on or all the accys are running. there is for lack of a better term a hole in the map that the car sinks into. after the clean throttle and man there was some build up in there after 50k miles... all is well.
