A4 or M6? I just did this myself 2 or 3 months ago. If you have an M6, you're in luck I can tell you what to do and what not to do. If you have an A4, it should be close but I would imagine a few things are different.
Here to help also, just did mine myself. It's really not to bead, make sure you remove all grounds from the engine, there is one on the back of the driver's side head that many people forget to unhook, and even more forget to re-hook it. It's not terribly hard to do, just time consumming. There's really no magic, some guys have said that you have to drop the rack to get the engine out, but I didn't, I dropped the sub frame and it hung low, and I removed the mounts from the engine and the motor swung right by. If you get stuck, just come back in and ask questions!
Dan
I have the A4
It looks farely straight forward up top.
What do i unhook as far as the driveline is concerned ?
And how far do you lower the subframe and how ?
Hmmm.... Not sure on an A4, I took the 5 bolts out of the torque tube and when I pulled the engine the bellhousing and clutch assembly came with it.
There are 4 big bolts holding the front cradle in, I removed those, disconnected the shocks at the top, and unbolted the upper control arms to drop it. I lowered it about 6 inches and it made it pretty easy.
Take the hood off before you start unbolting everything, it needs to come out to get the engine off but you will be glad to get it out of the way.
Thanks... i already have heads off ( had to check low compression problem) and hood off. I'm waiting for new motor next week and should get started on the rest this week.
Thanks, CHRIS
