i just used a big pair of needle nose pliers, it took my a couple of mins of cursing at it till i got it to pop out, and look out that puppy is under some tension.
It is possible to remove the torque tube with the engine out but you need to drop the rear suspension at least one foot to do it. The torque tube will not move forward enough because the tunnel is in the way. I just did this on a 2001.

CRAP!!! you are right, I just looked... Oh well... This project is getting long in tooth.... TQ-Tube bushing may have to wait...
