Default Belt squeal ?

I put a LS2 in my 65 Coupe and have a belt squeal, everything looks aligned. I spray some belt dressing on it and it stops for a minute or so. Anyone have a tip to track down what is making the belt squeal? I do not have much experience with these belt systems.

Thanks Tim

In many cases its one of the pullies (bearings) that is squeaking.. They sound just like a slipping belt.. Make sure you diagnose the problem correctly.. I've been through all of this myself,as well as many other forum members.. The main serprentine belt as well as the A/C belt should be replaced with the Goodyear Gatorback belts which are $16-$21 at Auto Zone Auto Parts Store.. The pullies usually go dry at an early age. You can pop the seals on one and the bearing is probably dry as a bone. Best prices on the a/c tensioner pully and idler pullies are through GM Parts Direct $23.00 a piece or Fred Beans.. It is also possible for one of the tensioners to be worn out and not putting enough tension on the belt.. Make sure you correctly diagnose the squeal/sqeak properly.. or you will end up doing the process of elimination method like I did.. which is not necessarily a bad thing at all.. A mechanics stethoscope is a good investment for $4.00 if you do not already have one

The power steering pump and Alt are new, the water pump and some parts are off of a 02 Camero LS1, some brackets from Street & Performance. Not sure where the belt came from, but I can go get a Gatorback one and try that. Someone else said if it was not a Gatorback to start there. No A/C, so only one tensioner on the driver side with the power steering pump in the high position. Alt in the high position on the passenger side. I will remove the belt and go get a gatorback one, see if that works. Thanks for the tips. Tim

I had a belt squeal. I took the belts off and spun each pulley to find the one that was the culprit. The only ones that needed to be replaced were the idler pullies. I didn't have time to do that so I just sprayed them and put on new gatorbacks. The squeal went away.

Going to get a Goodyear Gatorback this week and I'll spin all the pulleys. Thanks for the input. Tim

The Gatorback belt did the trick, the NAPA belt was the problem. Thanks for the help. Tim
